If you’re on the island of Lanai the next time you’re in Hawaii, make sure you check out Polihua Beach.
Polihua Beach on Lanai is ideal for honeymooners or other couples wishing for a bit of privacy and romance at the beach. The beach is absolutely the most secluded beach on all of Lanai, so you can enjoy a romantic picnic or cuddling together while the sun sets.
Located across the channel from Molokai, Polihua beach offers some spectacular, romantic views. This 2-mile stretch of sand is far from Lanai City and very much off the beaten path. It’s also a fabulous place to spot wildlife. Expect to see humpback whales during the winter months (it’s a perfect time right now!)… and you might even spot a sea turtle or two!
Remember that Polihua Beach is waaaay off the beaten path, which means you will absolutely need a four-wheel drive vehicle to get there. Make sure you get really good directions from your hotel before you go; there is nothing romantic about being hopelessly lost in the middle of nowhere… or is there?
All joking aside, make sure you know where you’re going and have everything you need to get there, including snacks, directions, water, directions, sunscreen, directions… you get the idea.
Please note that Polihua Beach is romantic and beautiful and perfect for sightseeing and spending a little quality time with your honey, but is NOT the beach you want to go to for swimming. There are some pretty serious currents at Polihua Beach, which make swimming just plain dangerous. Enjoy suntanning, picnicking, and sightseeing, but save the swimming for a safer beach.
