There is an amazing Maui winery you can check out on your Hawaii vacation! Their specialty: Pineapple Wine.
Most of us think about beaches and luaus when we think of the land of aloha. But Hawaii wineries do exist – and this one is an awesome one to visit!
First of all, Maui’s Winery at Ulupalakua Ranch is the only winery on the entire island of Maui. It's one of only three main Hawaii wineries in the entire state. The others are on Oahu and the Big Island. It’s been around since 1974 and has the honor of creating something really distinctly Hawaiian: pineapple wine.
Pineapple wine is – you guessed it! – made from pineapples. The folks at Maui winery decided to try it while waiting for their grapevines to mature. The result is quite sweet and you can choose from three varieties. One is sparkling and the other has hints of lavender. Yum!
This Maui winery is located in stunning upcountry Maui. It is one of the most beautiful Hawaii wineries you will ever see. This scenic drive will treat you to gorgeous vistas, and your visit to the winery itself won’t disappoint, either! The property boasts over 150,000 trees, many of which are 150 years old or older. There are tours almost every day at 10:30am and 1:30pm. Enjoy a beautiful, leisurely guided tour - free of charge - then enjoy tastings of the winery’s most famous products. Luckily this includes pineapple wine as well as traditional offerings.
One neat bit of trivia? The tasting room is actually the former guest cottage of Hawaii’s King, Kalakaua!
Before you leave, consider purchasing some pineapple wine or other souvenirs from this amazing Maui winery. The wines are distinct to Maui: the pineapples are grown on Maui, the grapes get their unique, spicy flavor from the rich volcanic soil of Haleakala, and even the wine labels are designed by local Maui artists. As far as Hawaii wineries go, this is a do not miss for wine lovers!
